With the release of RED MOROCCO (2007), Joe has renewed his large ensemble activities, after almost four years of concentrating on solo soprano saxophone performance.

RED MOROCCO ORCHESTRA is the name that Joe gives to the various large ensembles that present his music under his direction. What makes RED MOROCCO ORCHESTRA (RMO) different from other well known aggregations (like Globe Unity, ICP ,Soundpainting, Conduction, et al) is the material and the direction from which the ensemble comes to approach the material.

The music that is at the center of the RMO is Joe's G2 music. It is open music that is improvised from Joe's charts, and the results, according to writer John Szwed:

"....are an elegant, shimmering, ringing music, like colors spiking across the plane of a Monet canvas, or spinning as if it were a piece of Calder's kinetic art; a constantly evolving, deeply sonic performance, collectively improvised, yes, but decentered; a self-organizing musical system, with minimal input or constraints from outside, a music that is emergent in its details though not in its form."

"Giardullo is willing into existence a music that occurs beyond his control" Signal to Noise Magazine 2008

Joe has performed this music with world renown musicians and with amateur ensembles around the world. The results have been equally impressive and whole each time. That is the nature of Joe's G2 music. Read the comments, at the WORKSHOPS link, from both amateur and professional musicians who have performed his music.
