• October 10: Joe and drummer Harvey Sorgen bring their duo to The Colony in Woodstock. Titled SERAPHIC HEP & THE MAGIC OF JU-JU", they'll be joined by special guest, vibraphonist KARL BERGER , and perhaps another guest or two. This is ferocious music and will preceed Joe and Harvey heading into the studio.
  • The following night, October 11, Joe will join the Creative Universe Orchestra at The Colony, Woodstock. This all-star aggregation is led by Karl Berger.
  • Joe's LANGUAGE OF SWANS Trio, with Todd Capp and Reuben Radding, play The Yippie Museum in NYC on Monday October 13.
  • Joe joins pianist Chris Chalfant and percussionist Ken Yamasaki in a performance at NY's Chelsea Art Museum, playing Chris' beautiful music. Saturday October 18.
  • Autumn is on the way in the mountains. Joe heads to Portugal in early September, then back home to record his Language of Swans Trio.
  • Joe has an invitation to present 3 nights of his music in Montreal, Quebec in early November. Joe's 4tet on November 2 wil include drimmer John Heward, trumpeter Gordon Allen and bassist Nicholas Coloia. A large orchestra will play Joe's G2 music the following evening and a solo performance will happen the next night. many thanks to the beautiful musicians of Montreal for the invitation.
  • KINGSTON JAZZ FESTIVAL kicked off on June 27th with Karl Berger and The CMS Orchestra. Joe joined Karl and a cast of thousands: Tani Tabbal, Tomas Ulrich, Joe McPhee, Ingrid Sertso, Sylvain Leroux and Peter Apfelbaum, among many more.
  • JAZZ AT WOODSTOCK: The first weekend in May, Woodstock, NY presented an array of great musicians in a benefit for the Creative Music Studio archives. Joe joined Karl Berger, Tani Tabbal, Harvey Sorgen, John Lindberg, Marilyn Crispell, Dave CasT, Don Davis and many more in a beautiful 2 day festival of our music.
  • Guitarist Luis Lopes, on his recent debut recording for Clean Feed Records (HUMANIZATION 4TET) dedicated a piece to Joe, titled BIG LOVE. Joe and Luis first met when Joe played the Hot Club of Lisbon with trumpeter Bobby Bradford, reed player Vinny Golia, drummer Alex Cline, bassist Ken Filiano and saxophonist Rodrigo Amado in 2003.
  • The new issue of Italy's JAZZ Magazine has a feature article on Joe's G2 music and the new disc, RED MOROCCO. The feature is titled "Velenosa Bellezza" (poisonous beauty).
  • NYC's Mutable Music Interpretations Series will feature the premiere of TRIANGLE/CIRCLE/SQUARE, Joe's music for string quartet, piano, percussion and soprano saxophone, on April 3 at Roulette/Location One in Soho. The musicians are Gwen Laster & Michael Snow (violins), Larry Packer (viola), Daniel Levin (cello), Chris Chalfant (piano) and Harvey Sorgen (percussion).Also performing that night will be the great Oliver Lake Big Band.
  • MODE Records will be releasing music from a session done in May 2007. Called The Pearl Road Session, this is music for 15 musicians, and is another chapter in Joe's G2 music.
  • 2008 jumped off to a good start, as Joe's Language of Swans Trio made its debut at NYC's Cornelia Street Cafe. This group includes the drummer Todd Capp and the bassist Reuben Radding, and the music was striking, soulful and different, focusing on the compositions of drummer Paul Motian.According to one listener: " I really received your gift of inspired cosmic musical wisdom.What a communion you offered!".
  • And... a great night of music came from Joe's Late 20th Century Quartet at the great Rosendale Cafe, a local gig for all the band members. This was the first time this configuration had played together, but it was heavy. What else would you expect from pianist Frank Kimbrough, bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Harvey Sorgen.
  • SIGNAL TO NOISE Magazine has a feature on Joe's music for large ensemble in the winter 2008 edition. The article is written by the music writer John Szwed.
  • RED MOROCCO, Joe's music for large ensemble, was released at the end of 2007. This recording, on the Rogue Art label (Paris), features 14 musicians, including the great Joe McPhee, and the music has been getting alot of attention worldwide.
  • And, Joe's homage to the late soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy continues to get airplay and attention as well. Recorded just 6 months after Steve's death, NO WORK TODAY: Nine for Steve Lacy contains a few of Steve's songs and a few takes on some of his favorites, from Ellington to Monk, of course. We all miss Steve alot.
